Wir machen Theater! [We’re creating theater!] This is a group of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers whose mission is to bring quality German Theater to San Diego and neighboring areas. Founded in October 2016 by Astrid Ronke, the group has quickly attracted talented and creative folks who couldn’t wait to put their first play into production. For more information, contact Director Astrid Ronke at info@germantheatergroupsandiego.org

Karneval Group (German Mardi Gras)
At our Club, we celebrate the Rheinische Karneval in the German tradition – called “Carnival” in Rio, and “Mardi Gras” in the United States… but all you need to know is that we celebrate a love for life and a willingness to let loose, have fun and frolic in full costume! Karneval season – also known as Fifth Season – runs from Nov. 11 through Ash Wednesday. The group supporting this months-long collection of events meets the third Thursday of every month at 7:30 p.m. during off-season, and weekly in season (unless otherwise determined by the elected Karneval Committee). Click on the Event Info page and Group tab to learn more.

KinderTanzGruppe
This group of boys and girls ages 5 and older meets weekly. The focus is on passing down German heritage through traditional folk dancing, interpretive dance and participation in the Club’s Karneval activities. They perform throughout the year, at our own Clubhouse as well as out in the community. Karneval performances takes them as far away as Las Vegas (with their parents, of course)! For more information, contact gaskindertanzgruppe@gmail.com.

Schützenverein
The Schützenverein participates in 10-meter, Olympic style, competitive shooting with 0.177 caliber air rifles. The group travels to other Schützenverein clubs such as Las Vegas and Anaheim to compete in a fun-filled 3-day tournament called Schützenfest, and they host an open range night every Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for guests to come out, try their hand at shooting, enjoy the bar, and eat an inexpensive dinner. Follow the web page for details: St. Hubertus Schützenverein – German American Societies San Diego (germanclubsandiego.org).

Skat Players
Skat is a 3-player trick-taking card game devised around 1810 in Altenburg in the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. It is the national game of Germany and, along with Doppelkopf, it is the most popular card game in both Germany and Silesia. The Skat Players meet the first and 3rd Thursday of the month at 4 p.m. (with the exception of July) in the Club’s main hall. On select Friday nights, free lessons are taught on how to play Skat – check out home page or follow us on Facebook to get the latest details on that, or if you are interested in joining the group, contact Eddie Scheuermann 858-279-0729 for more information.

ZZFC
ZZFC was founded by a small group of dads connected by their families, a love of soccer – or in German: Fussball – and a connection to Germany. They adhere to one simple belief: That the sport has the power to build a stronger community – and that community has the ability to create better Fussball. ZZFC started small with big ambitions to bring together fans from around San Diego to play on the new turf field, watch the game, and foster passionate soccer debates over tasty food and beverages.
